Flat paint has a matte finish but is also the hardest to clean, hence it is not advisable to use flat paint in kids bedrooms. Glossy paint on the other hand is shiny and also easiest to clean. Think about things like that before you spray your entire home with flat paint just because it looks good.

Also keep in mind that interior painting is very different from exterior painting and the sheen in your paint does matter. For example, your exteriors should preferably be painted with flat paint as it provides better protection from harsh New Zealand sun. Always use a lower sheen paint such as flat paint for your exterior as it provides the best protection against the harsh New Zealand sun. The paint should also have UV protection to ensure the longevity of your paint job.

Type of Undercoat

Oil paints and undercoats have a premium finish, last longer and are more expensive. Water-based paints and undercoats last for a shorter amount of time, do not have such high quality finish but are in fact cheaper.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Health and Safety should be a high priority when you are getting your house painted. If you are using oil based paints for your interior then make sure that you do not move into your home 7 to 10 days after the painting is done. If you are using water-based paints then you can move in whenever you like as it has no harmful fumes.
