Central Auckland House Painting FAQs
Central Auckland is villa-and-bungalow country. From the ridgelines of Mt Eden and Epsom to the weatherboard streets of Ponsonby, Grey Lynn, Herne Bay and Kingsland, most homes here are older timber-clad places that reward careful prep over a quick coat. We paint right across the isthmus, Remuera and the eastern bays.
Which Central Auckland suburbs do you paint?
We work across the isthmus — Mt Eden, Ponsonby, Grey Lynn, Herne Bay, Freemans Bay, Kingsland, Sandringham, Mt Albert, Epsom, Remuera and Newmarket, plus the eastern bays. See our house painting services or book a consultation to get started.
Do you paint heritage villas and weatherboard bungalows?
Yes. A lot of central Auckland is weatherboard villas and bungalows, and the paintwork only lasts as well as the prep underneath it. That means scraping back flaking paint, sanding, filling and priming bare timber before the topcoats go on. See our exterior painting page for how we handle older homes.
How much does it cost to paint a villa exterior in Mt Eden or Ponsonby?
It depends on the size of the house, the number of storeys, access, and how much prep the weatherboards need. For a ballpark before we visit, run the numbers through our exterior painting cost calculator, then we confirm with an on-site quote.
What about older homes with lead-based paint?
Homes painted before the 1980s can have lead-based paint under later coats. On those we take extra care with preparation — containing and removing old flaking paint safely rather than dry-sanding it — so the new finish goes onto a sound surface. We’ll walk you through it during the on-site quote.
How do painters come up with an estimate for painting?
Of course, this process might differ from one company to another, but we believe it would give you a good general idea on how painters come up with a quote. Step 1: Measuring and counting what needs painting, including all related prep work and clean up. It includes measuring the size of the rooms to be painted, including all surfaces such as doors, kitchen cabinets, trims, etc. Step 2: Calculating how much time and resources are needed to complete the project. Step 3: Adding the cost of paint and materials.
What is the Average Cost of Interior Painting (Per Square Metre) ?
Painting a home interior or room costs $35 to $55 per square metre with most jobs averaging $45 per square metre. Total painting project costs range between $5,000 and $10,000 with a national average of $7,500. For an entire 150 square metre home, expect to pay between $5,250 and $8,250 (not including GST). For a single room, you'll spend anywhere from $675 to $825.
