How Often Do You Actually Have To Paint Your Home?

Wondering if it’s time to revamp your style? Read this first.

As the professional interior painters North Shore, we are often asked how often do walls, ceilings, and trims need to be painted. The answer to this question depends on many factors, such as do you have children or pets? Is your kitchen or a bathroom a high traffic area? Are you someone whose mood about color changes every five minutes?

While your Auckland home interior typically doesn’t need to be painted as often as the exterior, there are some simple painting frequency rules you should follow to keep your paint looking fresh on every surface inside your house.

  1. Some walls in your home do not need to be repainted as often as other areas of your house.

For example, you probably won’t need to repaint the walls in your bedroom as often as those in your bathroom, kitchen, and living room.  As professional interior painters in North Shore, we make sure we use the most durable paints on walls of your most used rooms, so that your paint lasts as long as possible.

However, sometimes life gets in the way, and it’s totally normal! You’ll find food splatters in the kitchen and                  messy fingerprints on the walls of your bathroom. In order to keep your house looking its best, consider re-                  painting walls of these areas every 3-4 years.

  1. Over time, white ceilings tend to show yellow spots due to sunlight, moisture or other  daily wear and tear.

Regrettably, Aucklanders may not be able to spot them until it’s too late since the process is very gradual. The general rule of thumb when it comes to the ceiling paint is getting it repainted every other time you get your walls painted as well. This way you can keep your ceilings looking bright and fresh. When you trust your ceiling paint project to us, you’re guaranteed the best painting job that could last up to 10 years!

  1. One of the things that Aucklanders might overlook is  repainting  your  trims,  base- boards, and cabinets!

These elements take the most beating inside your house and are prone to daily wear and tear. You might also notice that some baseboards will chip quicker if they are located in the high traffic areas of your  house. Therefore, most people tend to repaint their home interior trims every 2 to 4 years depending on where the trims are located.

  1. While adult bedrooms do not need to be repainted frequently, the kids’ bedrooms are an entirely different story!

Because they are used for both sleep and play, the professional interior painters in  North Shore will recommend using an eggshell or satin sheen when repainting a child’s bedroom. This can ensure that paint will last longer even when it has to be scrubbed down multiple times over. Kids’ bedrooms usually need to repaint every 2 to 3 years. You could also consider using oil based paints for these areas as they are easy to clean and last longer.

No matter what your painting needs, you’ll be in good hands when you get your house painted by professionals with sound knowledge of the types of paints available.
